This was NOT good!

DON'T FORGET THE GIVEAWAY!

I always post recipes that I say are delicious and amazing but this one was not and there is a lesson behind it all.

Started off great.

Fresh broccoli rabe, fresh fava beans (that I shelled), cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh herbs (parsley, basil), fresh tagliatelle, parmesan cheese, stock and tomato paste for sauce.

When mixed together... yeah NO! NASTY! It just didn't work.

The cooking lesson today is: LESS IS MORE. Too many different vegetables going on here.

Tomorrow's pasta dish will prove this theory.

One Pot(ish) Turkey Meatballs with Pasta!

I slightly changed up Giada DeLaurentiis's recipe for Turkey meatballs.
Find her recipe here and follow it!
(skip the part on the tomato sauce!)
(next time I might use garlic and onion powder instead of fresh so that I don't get chunks in my balls. HA!!!!! Grating works but I'm also lazy!)

Once I browned the meatballs, I added 1 cup of red wine, and the zest and juice of one lemon. I let the alcohol reduce, then I added 1/2 pasta to the pot and tossed to coat. A very simple dish! Enjoy!

~A Sunday Roast~

Thanks to Jamie Oliver, I channeled my inner Brit this weekend by preparing a roast for my father and the boyfriend. I highly recommend the recipes from Jamie Oliver. Simple ingredients. Very lovely and not complicated with fatty nonsense. Don't you just love him?

Roasted Chicken

The Pan Gravy
(recipe found here)

Roasted Vegetables
Just add in your vegetables for the last 45 minutes around the meat~

Yorkshire Pudding

My only notes are that the step of heating the oil in the muffin tins is a bit dangerous so proceed with caution. The muffin tin was so hot it singed a whole in my pot holder and burned my thumb. YOUCH!!!

Chopped Salad with Red Wine Vinaigrette
Just chop up your favorite greens and vegetable to the same bite size.
Here is the dressing:

1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 tsp honey
2 pinches garlic powder
2 pinches onion powder
2 tsp dried oregano
2 tsp dried basil
1 tsp salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups olive oil

Whisk it up!

*If any of the recipes are in UK measurements just hit US at the top!

Happy Roasting!

Saturday Brunch w/ Friends

Had a lovely brunch with friends this Saturday.
We were originally going to Penelope's but the wait was just too long (1 hour~)
Maybe one day when I grow some patience I will wait for a table.

We headed down the block and found a decent place called Banc Cafe.
Interesting decor (it was an old bank in the 20's after all), and very lovely eggs benedict (my favorite) and a tasty goat cheese wrap.

And a brunch is always complete with a refreshing Mimosa.
And a friend named Mimoza... but only some of us have that fortune, like me!

What are your favorite brunch dishes?

New Breakfast Idea!

I've always tried to get into oatmeal everyday.
I could just never get into it though.

I read about Muesli the other day in a silly {yet tasty} article on how to eat like Prince William and Princess Catherine. I decided to give it a try when I saw it in the store the other day. I'm hooked!

Muesli (pronounced muze-ly, kinda like loosely) is a mixture of rolled oats, dried fruit and seeds/nuts. I bought this brand, which has sun flower seeds, raisins, almond slices, and barley.

I cooked 1/2 cup of muesli with 1/2 cup of milk for about 3 minutes once brought to a boil. I also added 2 pinches cinnamon, a few dried cherries, dried diced mango, and a few pecan pieces.

You can eat this cold too, but you have to soak the muesli for 10-15 minutes in the milk so it absorbs!
I'm a fan.
Thanks, Princess Catherine!
Will I look like you if I eat this for a while?

Barcelona Part 1: What We Drank

Barcelona has many drinks of choice. From Sangria, to Cervesas {Beer}, to Wine, to Hot Chocolate, you will not go thirsty! Alas, the Sangria was drunk but a little too quickly for a photo-opp. just us, it's delicious!

The Wine. Go for Rioja in Spain. This is a Northern Region of Spain where reds and whites flourish.
We were not disappointed with any hot-mess wines
Here are some top pics:

The beers are crisp and light in Spain.
Here are some great tips on ordering cervesas in Spain.
And go for Damm. It's a wonderful taste!

And last, but not least, cafès and xocolata calenta (hot chocolate)!
The cafès are dreamy rich flavors. Not too bitter, and put Starbucks to shame!
The hot chocolate is so thick, you can dunk a churro in it and it will stand up straight!

Salut!!

Coming soon...
What We Ate!
