nailed it...

I'm jumping on the spring nail polish bandwagon by showing you all some of my favorite colors of the moment for spring. So many spring lines of colors are out now: OPI, Butter LONDON, Laura Mercier and Essie... I really love the Butter and Mercier collections right now. Too bad I think they are way too expensive!

I tend to go with Essie, OPI and Sephora brands... I'll also grab a color or two at the Forever 21 and/or Urban Outfitters at checkout!

-What colors are you showing off this season?
-Also, do you use a Top Coat or Base Coat?
If so, what ones do you use and do they aid in keeping the polish on longer?

Which color do you think Martin should wear? Just kidding... he could care less. And he's a cat.

{ iheart }... tv

{ iheart } tv

Today's { iheart } is all about television! I just want to give a shout out to some of the shows that { iheart } right now, and I hope you give them a try!

Downton Abbey
PBS... Season 2 finale Feb 19th!!
Oh my goodness. Early 20th Century British proper with soap opera-esque storylines... this show is sensational in all its sex, lies, and... letters-by-messenger glory. The production value is fantastic. I love the costumes, set, make-up, the differences and similarities between the elite  and the servants downstairs. It's all maticulous. The characters are wonderful and cover the range you need: the kind ones, the bitches, the meek, the funny... they are all accounted for. I burned through Season 1 in one evening.

Smash
NBC... Mondays at 10/9c
I really love the Theatre. I would not consider myself a Theatre nerd... no no, at one point in my life I WAS Theatre. I lived, breathed, drank, and ate that shit. I acted and had a big dream... now I'm behind the scenes so this show fills the void! Great characters, great music (originals and covers), and Katharine McPhee can actually act... who do I need to thank for that because I was worried? There are some questionable supporting roles though. The real show stopper for me is the gal who plays Ivy (Megan Hilty)... Nice to see the heckler from Louis getting a sweet gig! So if you're a fan of the show, you'll know what it means when I say I'm Team Ivy! =)

Breaking Bad
AMC... Sundays at 10/9c
The final season will hopefully start this October! Thank you AMC, for the lovely wedding gift... If you haven't watched Breaking Bad you need to lock yourself in a room and get through the past 4 seasons now on Netflix streaming. I don't even want to describe it because it's so amazing. It's funny, action packed, and totally demented!

Bob's Burgers
Fox... Premiere's this March on Sundays
I am so glad that Bob's Burgers on Fox is coming back for a second season. The voices on this show are so fresh... even though the lead Bob is the same voice as Archer, and the mini mart guy in Family Guy... I can't get enough of his dryness so I'll take all I can get. And the mother is a class act, I remembered "her" voice from youtube once upon a time (see vid here). Definitely check this show out. It's one of the better cartoons on Fox (Alan Gregory??... awful!)

guest post: $$$ and make-up!

Today, I have a lovely guest post...
Key ways to save money on cosmetics

Loads of personal care products are flooding the marketplace. After having bought everything you needed, another product that you could use pops out off the shelf. Earlier,  a shampoo and conditioner was enough for your hair care regimen. But now there are hordes of anti-rizz products, gels to style your hair with and mousses that keep your mane neat. Stocking up on everything can be hard on your pocket, so here are a few ideas that can help you cut down:

1. Lookout for price slashes
Rebates and discounts are all over the place, so keep a tab of new product launches and sales. Flyers with discount schemes and coupons in newspapers or supplied by manufacturers are great. Take advantage of promotional campaigns by registering on websites of cosmetic brands and you will receive emails on money saving deals. Keep track of sales on websites like smashbox and cash in on price cut downs at swagbucks and ebates.

2. Hunt for cheaper vendors
Sales at yards, garages and estates have a lot of economical products. Flea markets are not just for clothes and jewelry; you can also find cheap and good quality cosmetics over here. Use codes to avail discounts on online shopping sites, which can be taken from portals like couponcabin, retailmenot and couponfetch.

3. Stock up economical brands

Do not stock up on only high priced brands as generic ones are a good buy too. The local drugstores, beauty shops and pharmacy chains have a lot of products that are easy on the pocket. Plus, most of these products work just fine so it is not like you are compromising on the quality.

4. Load up on free giveaways
Many products come with goodie bags and free trial samples. The ‘buy one and get one free’ scheme and packs in which extra volume is added at the same price are quite a bargain. Try asking the sales girl for a free sample or test product, it might just be your lucky day.

5. Be price conscious
Do not pick a product as soon as you set eyes on it. It will not have the same price tag everywhere, so compare prices from all outlets before you make the purchase. This happens a lot with online retailers. Hence, visit different merchant sites and add shipping charges also to the mark up price displayed on the product.

6. Buy only what you need
Just because store shelves are stocked with umpteen goodies does not mean you have to buy everything. If your closet is stocked with things you haven’t touched in months then it means that you are a frantic shopaholic. Remember that all products have a shelf life. It is best to use moisturizers, cleansers, mascaras and foundations within six months of purchase. Lipsticks, eyeliners, lip pencils and powders last up to one year while a blush and eye shadow will stay good for about two years. Buy products just as the season begins to change so that you do not have to store them for the next year.

Just keep at it and make looking for bargains a habit. Be aware of all the low priced products and time of the year when sales take place. All this will help you save a lot of money.

I love this guest post and definitely want to add one of the tricks up my sleeves when it comes to beauty... Ulta.com. Oh my heavens, I love Ulta. I shopped there when I was a teen on Long Island but we do not have one in NYC. Just a Sephora on every corner. But, you must go to the website because there are always 'buy one get one" deals, coupon codes, free shipping, free samples, and free gifts with purchase. It's a mecca, you can find everything there!

{ i heart }... beauty

I’m going to start a new feature called:
 { i heart }

I want to try and do this on a weekly basis and let you all know what I’ve been “hearting” lately. I’ll try to keep it categorized and today’s { i heart } will be all about beauty! I recently went on a major shopping bender at Sephora, Ulta.com (lots of great deals there), and just the plain ole drugstore. I’m in rehab now, but definitely want to point out some of my current addictions!

Demeter Fragrance Library

Have you smelled these, yet? Wow! It takes a whole afternoon. You can smell like a Mint Julep, a Frozen Pond, or even Hershey’s Kisses! I think this line is hilarious and they actually smell good. I have the Kahala Hawaiian Vanilla and it brings me back to my trip to Hawaii. I remember the stores smelling like this and I think I even bought some vanilla perfume there in a little bottle, which is now long gone. What makes Kahala Hawaiian Vanilla different from just Vanilla, in my opinion, is that the Hawaiian version is a little spicier! The scent is not “alcoholy” and it lasts all day and fades very nicely so it’s not too strong once it absorbs into the skin. The entire collection is online, and even at the new and improved Duane Reades in NYC!

*There is a BUY 1 GET 1 FREE sale on their website now until the 6th.

Bobbi Brown

Until a few years ago, I was a drug store junky when it came to make-up. Now that I’m getting older, I’m splurging a bit more and buying more hi-end products. I’m sorry, but there is no reason for a 13 year old to be buying Dior mascara… that’s just me typing out loud. But there is something to be said about some of these designer lines and Bobbi Brown is one of them.
{ i heart }  all of her products. The Foundation Stick, Concealer, lip shades and shadows are amazing. They glide on and last all day. But, a special shout out needs to go to the Eyeliner Gel Pot and Eyeliner brush{ i heart } wearing black eyeliner and I always struggle to find a product that is easy to use because I always have trouble applying a straight line. Where has this gel and brush been all my life! So easy!

*If you order from her site you’ll get free shipping and 2 DELUXE samples.
Use the code VDAY12… excuse me while I go on another make-up bender…

Organix Cherry Blossom Shine Spray

I don’t like to put products in my hair. My hair is very long (a few inches past my bust) and is very thick. Products just weigh it down even more and make it feel awful. However, I do need a little help in the shine department to keep my hair looking healthy and { i heart } this shine spray. It smells good but it won’t over power your perfume scents, and I think it lasts all day and my hair feels perfectly clean as if no products were used.

*It’s only 4.95 on Amazon and you can find it in most drug stores.

Macbarbie07 on Youtube

Ok, I’m embarrassed to admit that I am 28 (pushing 29) and absolutely adore this 16 (I think) year-old’s youtube beauty vlog. I don’t know why, but I think she’s adorable and she features cool products and has fun tutorials. I like that she utilizes voice over while performing the make-up tutorials because some people talk through the application way too much. She does ramble on in the intros and says “like” and “I’m so excited” way too much but I love it. She makes me feel like a teenager and her facial expressions are hilarious. She’s really positive and not boring. She also loves pink…  Anyway, some of you may think I’m nuts but I think she’s charming and my 16-year-old self would totally have been her, like, BFF!

*and yes, her video title is a happy coincidence to this post!
