We are constantly abusing our hair by the use of harsh chemicals in the form of dyeing, straightening and shampoos, which all have devastating effects on hair. The hair becomes dull and limp when it loses oil and its natural moisture. Apart from this, hair is also exposed to harmful pollution, sun rays and dust which all add to the woe. Our diet and nutrition also plays a role in promoting healthy hair. Here are 5 tips on natural remedies for your hair care which can be made at home.

1. Jojoba oil for the treatment of dandruff
When your scalp is ill nourished, it tends to dry up causing dead skin cells which becomes flaky and dry. This causes itchy hair and leads to other scalp problems. Here is a simple essential oil treatment which is also an all purpose remedy.

Ingredients
2 tbsp of Jojoba oil
¼ tsp of tea tree oil
1 tsp of lemon

Preparation
Mix the lemon, jojoba oil and the tea tree oil thoroughly.
Wet your hair and apply the mixture.
Wait for 30 minutes and wash off with a herbal shampoo.

2. Herbal infusion for hair breakage
When hair is either too thin or dry it breaks off which causes a lot of concern. To minimize hair losses due to breakage try this simple remedy which helps in arresting breakage.

Ingredients
Basil
Nettle
Sage
Rosemary.
These herbs can be dried or fresh upon availability.

Preparation
Infuse the herbs in half a cup of boiling water.
Keep aside to infuse for a few hours.
Strain and use this as hair rinse after your shampoo.

3. Herbal treatment for dry hair
Dry hair needs a lot of moisture as it tends to get very frizzy and brittle. Oil massage is the best for such kind of hair.

Ingredients
Aloe vera
Sage
Ylang ylang
Lavender
Cedar wood
Rosemary
Chamomile
Jasmine
Orange
8 oz of olive oil/coconut or jojoba
*Dried herbs are the best for this treatment.

Preparation
Take about 3 to 5 heaped tbsp of dried herbs of your choice and mix it with the oil.
Store the mixture for 6 weeks in a dark bottle.
To make sure that the ingredients blend well, shake the bottle on a daily basis.
Apply the mixture to your hair and scalp in small sections and massage in thoroughly.
Leave it on for 3 hours and rinse off with a mild herbal shampoo.

4. Treatment for oily hair
Oily hair becomes greasier in the summer as excess oil is secreted by the scalp. Oily hair can become dirty with grime so it needs to be washed properly. A natural shampoo for oily hair can be created at home.

Ingredients
Lavender oil
Chamomile oil
2 ounces of unscented shampoo

Preparation
Mix 10 drops of lavender oil and 2 drops of chamomile oil and 2 ounces of unscented shampoo in a bottle and shake well. Use this preparation at least twice a week for washing your hair.

5. Massage treatment for damaged hair
Damaged hair is very brittle, dry and breaks off easily while combing or washing. A sustained treatment is required for this type of hair.

Ingredients
3 drops of Chamomile oil
3 drops of rosemary oil
250 ml of sweet almond oil

Preparation
Mix the ingredients thoroughly in a container.
Warm the ingredients for a few minutes over low heat.
Wet your hair with warm water and wipe off excess moisture.
Apply the mixture on the scalp and hair and massage in.
Cover the hair with a shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes.
Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo.

These remedies can do wonders for your hair if you have the patience. Combine this with a proper balanced diet and drink plenty of water. You will soon have healthy and beautiful tresses and a clean scalp.

tgif & anastasia of beverly hills

Happy Friday everyone! I've posted about the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Collection before (click here and here), but just wanted to share this fun beauty video from the collection to get you pumped for a glamorous weekend.

You can purchase this kit at Sephora. It includes the Pacific Coast Illumin8 Shadow Palette, HydraFull Gloss in Guava, and the Clear Brow Gel. I HONESTLY use the brow gel everyday... I think it's one of the best, most useful, make-up products out there!

So... any plans this weekend?
 What's your weekend make-up routine?

braised pork shoulder

Over the weekend, we slightly adapted Anne Burrell's Braised Pork Shoulder recipe. It was AMAZING! Anthony Bourdain would gravel to our feet. Take a look at the recipe, but here were the things we added: Diced Panchetta, Sliced Carrots. We put the carrots in when the onions went in... we put the panchetta in when the onions etc got soft. We served this over simple boiled potatoes! The meat just fell of the bone...

pizza and wine class

I recently went to a pizza and wine class at NY Vintners. They do great classes (pasta making and wine, spanish tapas and wine) so if you live in NYC, or are visiting, I highly recommend this place for a good time and deliciousness...

Here are the wines we tried:
Chook NV Sparkling Shirz
Cazin 2004 Cour-Cheverny Renaissance
Boxler 2009 Gewurztraminer
Cerbaise 2007 Rosso di Montalcino
Qupe 2009 Syrah Central Coast

We left with the Chook, Cazin, and Cerbaise. The Chook is a sparkling RED wine. I've never had (or heard) that before and it was so good. A great refreshing drink, with the surprise of color. The cazin was dry and not too sweet or fruity. Nice and citrusy. The Cerbaise was another great dry and mild red.

The Pizzas:

The pizzas were really inspired and delicious. The first was a mushroom pizza with a mixture of soft and mozzarella cheese. They used black trumpet and hedgehog mushrooms. The second was Spanish anchovies (so good, citrusy and not salty and oily like the Italian ones), monchego cheese, roasted red peppers and micro cilantro. Such a weird combo and yet so good. The last pizza had bacon, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and blue cheese, and scallions. Another weird yet amazing combo. One awesome tip from the chef: If it's a great dish to begin with, it's taste great as a pizza!
