3 more days... and being grateful

Words cannot describe my enthusiasm for this week. I am truly grateful for the excitement about to come my way. I can't wait to blog about it all: Food, music, traveling, chilling, just good happy shite! What else can I say?

Today also marks day 59 without any booze. I feel very good these days with having alcohol out of my system. My skin has honestly never looked better. I usually have bad rosacea until the weather gets warmer and my skin has never been this toned before. Less pores, less discoloration. And, I lost about 15 pounds in the process. Whoo! But... I am jonesing for a glass of vino. Big time. It'll be fun to let loose a little. Just 3 more days...

That leads me now to the point of this post: Being grateful. I'm reading the book The Magic right now, written by the author of The Secret. It may seem lame to some of you, but I've been living a world full of complaining and it's 90% my fault, and 10% the idiots around me. Just kidding... but in all honestly I really need to make sure that I understand that other people shortcomings, drama, idiosyncrasies, and whatever-the-hell-is-wrong-with-them is not my problem. It may seem like my problem but really... they need to live with themselves right? :o)

Let me know if you've ever read this book and put it into practice. I'm curious! And remember to be grateful for something everyday. It helps.

Quick Pea Spread

If you want to make a quick and healthy alternative to *hummus... give this Spring Pea Spread a try.
*not saying hummus is unhealthy... but if you want to eat more for less calories and fat this spread will do the trick!

Just toss the following in a pot on stove and bring to a simmer: 1/2 cup water, 2 cups fresh peas, 1-2 garlic cloves, 1/4 cup chopped parsley, salt and pepper. Once the veggies boil, turn off heat. Scoop peas, garlic and herbs into a blender or food processor. Add water as needed for desired thickness as you blend. When you have reached desired consistency, add the following and blend again until smooth: 1 tsp olive oil4-5 basil leaves, juice and zest of 1 lemon, and if you want, 1 tablespoon Parmesan and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Super simple. Enjoy with crackers, pita chips or toasted baguette! Serve chilled or warm.

Who doesn't love it when everything starts to bloom in early spring? I really wish I could stop and smell the roses. I tried, but before I knew it I was back inside dreading Monday and the beginning of a new week full of shenanigans. Why is it so hard to be happy when clearly it could be so much worse? Anyway... if you need to stop and smell the roses today, here is some inspiration!

Life Lately...

Spring is finally coming through here in NYC. Hoping it takes me out of my current state-of-funk. I don't know what it is about March but man do the blues hit me hard. I've been doing well on my no alcohol cleanse. I went 20 days in February, and now I've done 44 days! I have 18 more to go! Overall I do feel better. Obviously not having a hangover or feeling sluggish feels good. I lost 15 pounds too. I haven't really changed my diet or exercise routine. I try to eat healthy and go to the gym a few times a week but I'm far from superstardom.

I have noticed though that if I make a statement as strong as "I'm not going to drink for 60 days" on my blog I really do stick to it. There's something about putting it in writing that really stamps it. So, after this little milestone I might make another. Whether it's no alcohol again or no grains or refined sugars, etc. This seems to be the right motivator: Making a promise. Will try to be on blog more this week but it's been busy. I do have a giveaway coming up so stay tuned tomorrow for that post.

Have a great day! Martin says hello... between his naps of course.
